Position Responsibilities

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Senior Biotechnology Engineer to join our industry leading Process Engineering team at our growing office located in Basel Switzerland.

 

The IPS Basel office is part of the IPS EMEA organisation and serves primarily the DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) region as well as the entire IPS Process Engineering team.

 

The Senior Biotechnology Engineer provides leadership of process and manufacturing technical services and programs to support corporate strategic plans and Client needs. They are also responsible for growing process-related business and will be seen as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in business development and the pursuit of additional projects with new and existing clients. Demonstrate IPS’ Biotechnology expertise and dexterity by contributing to the preparation and the delivery of sales presentations. 
  • Represent IPS in the DACH and European market by participating in industry organizations and societies (such as ISPE), writing papers, writing articles, speaking, and presenting at industry events.
  • For designated projects work with Project Managers to determine scope, complexity, planning and scheduling of project requirements.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of overall Biotechnology Engineering and compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes, and ordinances.  Adherer  to design and project schedules as well as  provide appropriate project personnel with adequate training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction.
  • Support the development of IPS’ Process Engineering  strategic business plan in concert with overall IPS planning efforts involving the technical and regulatory activities that are required to achieve long range annual goals and objectives. Assist in ongoing strategic planning for the whole company.
  • Support various personnel functions such as hiring, performance appraisal, and employee development. Assist with the planning and scheduling of project work, determine project personnel needs (what specific expertise is needed and what IPS personnel are most appropriate to fill those needs), ensure that appropriate space and facilities are available, and prepare manpower and cost estimates.
  • Assist the Process Engineering Department Director or Manager with the evaluation and improvement of the assigned process personnel.
  • Act as contact person for inter-office labor, work sharing and outsourcing to consultants. 
  • Evaluate and  propose necessary training policies and procedures needed to maintain and foster continued growth in pertinent technical competences, acceptable social/communication skills and personal development of leadership.
  • Support the development of departmental policies, technical standards and procedures. Assist with the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures and standards.  Develop and recommend concepts, initial evaluations and investigations, options, regulatory concerns, technologies and strategies.
  • Lead Biotechnology project development from initial concepts through to detailed design.  Own responsibility for the process and ensure the development of high quality process deliverables.
  • Work closely with clients and client personnel to identify needs and collect accurate data.
  • Define the technical development of process narratives, block flow diagrams (BFDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Stay informed about the latest industry technologies and their associated costs.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Extensive pharmaceutical/biotechnology process design experience including strong knowledge of cGMP manufacturing processes and machinery.
  • Master’s degree in bio engineering.
  • Provable progressive ability, capacity and aptitude doing administration functions such as planning, organizing, supervising and coordinating technical work, and obtaining cooperation from others while working with clients. 
  • Proven experience developing process strategies such as upstream and downstream processing; start up and qualification experience is considered a plus.
  • Possess analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communications, and team building skills as well as a strong work ethic. 
  • Must be able to build rapport with department staff.
  • Must have experience with global regulatory standards such as FDA, EMA and WHO.
