Position Responsibilities

IPS is hiring!  We are looking for a talented Senior Piping Designer to join our industry leading design team at our quickly growing office in Sao Paulo Brazil office.

 

The Senior Piping Designer works independently on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Discipline Manager/Lead Engineer. This position will play a role in the entire design process including but not limited to preliminary assessments, concept design, basic design, detailed design, site support, problem resolution, customer & vendor accessibility.  The Senior Piping Designer may have to work on several concurrent projects and at times may assist as a technical expert on a specialized design. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses computer aided design technologies to develop sketches, drawings, and construction documents.  Reviews drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards. 
  • Prepares 2D AutoCAD/Microstation Design Drawings.
  • Prepares 3D Models using Revit, AutoPlant, BIM or similar software and extracts design drawings/Isometrics from these models.
  • Prepares/supports Equipment general arrangements, piping general arrangements, Line Lists, Material Take-Offs (MTO).
  • Prepares demolition layouts/schematics, tie-in requirements and translates into drawings.
  • Familiar with all piping systems involved in Pharmaceutical and Petrochemical plants.
  • Develops design concepts and prepares documents during various stages of the design.  Corrects and updates design documents.  Develops solutions to design problems.
  • Initiates squad inter-discipline squad checks and squad checks with client (when necessary) prior to issue of drawings at various stages of projects.
  • Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.  Interacts with clients regularly to secure scope and design intent.
  • Ensures acceptable levels of quality and checks the coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.
  • Coordinates design work with related engineering disciplines.  Attends job and construction meetings, site walks, liaise with M&E contractors and participates in the coordination of the M&E work with other disciplines.  
  • Contributes to annual performance reviews, assists with the education and development of assigned design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
  • Is an analytical thinker, ethical and trustworthy, flexible and able to solve problems while working with a team. Able to motivate others and maintain good business relationships.
  • Strong CAD and IT skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ of previous piping design experience working for a contracting/consulting firm.
  • Mechanical Degree/Diploma from an accredited technical institution.
  • Must be proficient in the use of CAD and 3D modeling design.
  • Has demonstrated experience managing projects, solving problems, communicating effectively with key personnel and effective time management skills.
