Position Responsibilities

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Manager of Process Automation to join our industry leading Process Engineering team and lead the automation efforts for our new and growing Toronto, ON Canada office.

 

The Manager of Process Automation manages the utilization, growth, and development of professionals in the Process Automation Discipline, which is comprised of Process, Equipment, Piping, Automation/I&C engineers and designers in our Canada office.  They ensure consistent, high quality deliverables via cold reviews as well as support business development with technical support, proposal generation, and work hour estimates.  The Manager of Process Automation Possess sufficient technical proficiency in the various facets of Process design needed to understand project requirements and apply the appropriate resources and execution approach to result in a  successful project.  Supports strategic company initiatives.      

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with project manager and discipline Managers/Directors to determine scope, complexity, and planning & scheduling requirements of projects. Assign appropriate personnel to provide cost-effective engineering and technical support.
  • Define an appropriate cost-effective workflow process and the level of design detail needed to achieve project goals.  Estimate work hours to generate project deliverables and support the design team. 
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency and completeness of overall process automation engineering principles, compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to project schedules; and provides adequate training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel within the department. 
  • Work with Sr. Managment to develop a process automation strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving technical/regulatory activities that are required to achieve long range annual goals and objectives. Assist in ongoing strategic planning for the entire company. 
  • Perform various personnel functions that involve hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations, and employee development. Plan and schedule work for the discipline while ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments, manpower, space, and the facilities needed for subsequent performance of duties. Liaison for inter-office labor, work sharing and outsourcing to consultants. 
  • Evaluate and initiate the necessary training of the Process Automation team to insure pertinent technical competence, acceptable social/communication skills, and personal development of leadership. 
  • Determine labor, resource and financial needs of the unit. 
  • When necessary, develops policies, technical standards, and procedures. Assists in the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures, and standards. 
  • Regularly review productivity/quality reports to ensure top performance. 
  • Participate in business development by helping to seek out new projects with existing or new clients. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of sales presentations and proposals. 
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of BioPharm processes and facilities for the cGMP production of biological and pharmaceutical drugs.
  • A BSChE in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others. 
  • Analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communications skills, team building and strong work ethic.
