Position Responsibilities

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Director, BioProcess Engineering to join our industry leading Global Strategy & Technology team at our new and growing Toronto, ON Canada office. 


The Director, BioProcess Engineering provides leadership for corporate process and bioprocess technical services and programs to support corporate strategic plans.  They also responsible for growing IPS' BioProcess-related business.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in business development by seeking out new projects that may exist with existing or new clients. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of sales presentations.
  • Coordinates with project manager to determine scope, complexity and planning and scheduling requirements of projects. Assigns personnel to provide engineering and technical support determines personnel needed with most appropriate individual qualifications and prepares manpower and cost estimates.
  • Ensures the quality, accuracy and completeness of overall work as to process engineering quality; compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to design and project schedules; and provides adequate training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel with the department.
  • Develops Manufacturing Technology’s strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving technical/regulatory activities required to achieve long range and annual goals and objectives. Assists in ongoing strategic planning for the whole company.
  • Oversees various personnel functions such as hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations and employee development. Plans and schedules work for the department ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Contact person for inter-office labor, work sharing and outsourcing to consultants. 
  • Evaluates and initiates the necessary training of the Process group to insure pertinent technical competence, acceptable social/communication skills and personal development of leadership. Maintains a Training Log for each Process employee, and provides a quarterly report to the BUL, with appropriate recommendations of Training, with a quarter-by-quarter budget.
  • Determines labor, resource and financial needs of the unit. Establishes budget requirements to the unit and reviews/approves annual budgets submitted by Managers.  
  • Develops departmental policies and technical standards and procedures. Assists in the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Establishes productivity measures and a reporting system to keep those measures in check. Regularly review productivity/quality reports to ensure top performance. 
  • Special projects as assigned.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years' pharmaceutical/bioprocess products manufacturing experience including strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and machinery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or planning.
  • Progressive ability, capacity and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.  
  • Analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communications skills, team building and strong work ethic. Must be able to build report with department staff.
